Questions, answered
Does it really work offline?
Yes. After the one-time model download, all translation runs on your Mac. You can enable offline mode to hard-block any network access — the app keeps working.
When exactly does my text leave my Mac?
Only on Level 3 — when you have explicitly configured a cloud backend with your own API key and selected it. On Level 1 nothing leaves your Mac; on Level 2 your text travels only to a server you run yourself. The one-time model download exchanges standard network metadata, never your text.
Which languages and models are used?
49 languages via TranslateGemma 4B/12B — the app's primary, translation-specialist models running on-device. A compact Gemma utility model assists with glossary refinement, text polishing, and synonym suggestions. OCR for scanned documents supports the languages of your installed OCR models.
What do I need to run it?
An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) on macOS 15+, with 8 GB RAM minimum. 16 GB is recommended for the higher-quality 12B model.
Can it translate DRM-protected e-books?
No. Only DRM-free EPUB files are supported. Protected books are detected and declined with a clear message.
What does "bring your own key" cost?
Nothing extra from us. If you connect a cloud provider, you pay that provider directly under your own account. The app never marks up or brokers API usage.
Is my translation history private?
It's stored only on your Mac. Full-text search, filtering, and CSV/JSON export are all local. Delete it anytime.
